Maverick Moves Project

Our Mission

Founded by NFL First Round Draft Pick and Two-Time Pro Bowler Eric J. Swann, the mission of Maverick Moves Project is to help all people — especially minorities from challenged economic circumstances — confront and master the hierarchy of human needs. Our human needs are like a pyramid. When we arrive at the apex and reach self-actualization, we become independent thinkers who can make bold, unconventional moves to achieve our goals. In other words, we become Mavericks.

Currently, Maverick Moves Project is raising funds to provide our program at two underserved high schools in the Phoenix Area. In addition to ensuring that all program participants are getting their essential needs met through community partnerships (food, shelter and clothing), we will also provide students with a robust life skills and character/leadership development program that helps these young people become “mavericks” (i.e.. able to think independently and take bold moves to achieve success.).

Learn More:

Maverick Moves addresses and fulfills the three categories of human needs:

1.) Basic Needs: Food, Shelter & Clothing.

Food – We secure grocery store gift cards that are provided to those who excel in our Maverick Moves Leadership Curriculum.

Shelter – We partner with local social service agencies to provide access to affordable housing.

Clothing – We partner with Dress for Success to provide professional clothing.

2) Social Needs – Because of a dependency on electronic devices, many of today’s youth are socially awkward, which impacts their ability to make or maintain friendships. Maverick Moves sponsors programs that allow young people to interact with one another as well with positive adult role models.

3.) Self-Actualization Needs. Maverick Moves has a robust curriculum that develops the life skills, character traits and leadership qualities necessary to reach self-enlightenment, acquire wisdom, and achieve one’s full potential.

The Maverick Moves Project works with underserved schools, community organizations, veteran’s organizations and more to identify those who need our programs most. Our current fundraising drive will allow us to work with counselors and DAEP (discipline) programs at two underserved Phoenix high schools. These counselors will identify those who are most at risk of dropping out or entering the juvenile justice system, and enroll them in our program.
